Updates in response to COVID-19

4/4/2020 update:

We just wanted to clarify that all church activities (at the building or elsewhere) that would gather people together are suspended until further notice.

When this all started, we had hoped to be meeting together again by Easter Sunday. Obviously, that’s not going to happen. With the state of Indiana extending the stay-at-home order, and with federal recommendations continuing to push the finish line further into the future, we decided it doesn’t make sense for us to set a date, only to have to keep changing it. When we are able to worship together again, we will… and we will be sure to let everyone know!

Until then, please join us online for Sunday worship and on Zoom and Facebook the rest of the week. If you need to talk with someone, feel free to email us at office@LivingHope.info or call us at 219-462-1245.

3/25/2020 update:

We’re going to try moving our Wednesday night Bible study to Zoom tonight at 5:30. You’re welcome to join us as we experiment with this! Click here for details.

3/21/2020 update:

We’re going online this Sunday morning, March 22! We hope you’ll join us right here at 9:00 am… or anytime later in the day on YouTube or Facebook. Hope to see you in the chat!

(You can get a little bit more detail here, if you want.)

In light of recent developments, and out of concern for the most vulnerable among us, we have decided to suspend all activities that would have us gathering together at the church building for the time being, including Sunday morning services and all mid-week activities. Instead, just as students are learning from home and many adults are working from home, we’re inviting you to worship from home. We’ll go “live” with a worship service on Sunday morning that you can watch and participate in. We’ll also be working hard to be more connected via calls, texts, and Facebook during this time of physical distance.

This won’t be easy… but it’s what love requires of us at this time.

Stay tuned to the website, your email inbox, or our church’s Facebook page for future updates!

We’ve had some questions from people wondering what we’re doing in response to COVID-19 and the governor’s announcement restricting gatherings of more than 250 people. Here’s what we are doing:

  • We are holding our usual two worship services this Sunday morning, March 15, at 9:00 and 10:30.
  • We already have hand sanitizer available throughout the building. Please use it!
  • We will explore some new ways to greet each other that don’t involve handshakes. 🙂
  • We have communion options that don’t involve touching bread or juice that others might have touched.
  • And we will be doing some extra sanitizing before, between, and after the services.

Our previously-scheduled board meeting is Monday night, March 16, where we will discuss how to proceed.

In the meantime, we ask anyone who is feeling sick to please worship at home so as not to infect others.

If you’re a member of a “high-risk group” — older adults or those with respiratory issues or compromised immune systems — we especially want to protect your health. We understand if you want to avoid gathering with us for a while. We’ll do our best to help you stay connected in other ways. Audio of the service is available by Monday afternoon here on our website, and in the not-too-distant future we’ll have video available, too.

This is an opportunity for us to do what Christ called us to do: love our neighbors. We don’t give in to fear or panic, knowing that God is with us and will have the final word. But we do feel responsible to care for the vulnerable among us, and so we will make whatever adjustments and sacrifices are necessary to love all of our neighbors at this time.

Come As You Are

If there’s one place where you can take off the mask, let down your guard, and just be yourself, it’s church: a community of grace, where nobody is perfect and everybody depends on the help of God and each other to live better each day than the day before.

If that sounds good to you, we invite you to come check it out.
